A Diary of Things (Typography)
I created a diary of things; Reciepts & Redesigned a bottle label. Own my expenses. The foundation pf this project was based on my personal response to typographywhich i found in my everyday life. I discovered it through lettering, layout, design & process in my immediate enviroment. This work took the form of my detailed shopping allowances which allowed my to analyse typefaces used in my local enviroment.
A Disaster Waiting to happen
Personal project: Outlining how I have faced my own personal disaster via being pregnant and continuing my studies. Has not been easy but with the support, understanding and ambition. I have finally finished and conquered my worst fear of disappearing. I would not advise anyone to create their own disaster as there are too many natural man made disaster which should make you appreciate your lifestyle and reality. This has been a tough year for me but have discovered solutions in to how to handle a situation like like with a positive outcome. A booklet accompanied with a 30 second imfomercial shining light on this 'disaster.'
Memory Card x24
A ser of flat planes that are symbolic, embematic or typographic. Each card has a coloured graphic. The graphic represents events or issues which have shaped my existance. They are not picorial but picographicin a w ay that may be read as representing true realityin its symbolic form. My three dimensional form comes into places with th e materials used and the packaging.
Designed to interlock and be a methaphor of to where my memories lay. Closed away only exposred as picture without narrative. Each cards holds a memory I am able to speak openly & passionately about with a detailed outline with can engage an audience. They are not in a form of an installation or a 'house of cards' because just like my house which I lock when I am in not in so are but memories.
Represents reality but in a playful colourful way was is simplified and intelligent. A good toy is rememebered and represents the most sophiscated and creative aspects of a culture - I believe this mirrors thoughts, memories and emotions.
Visual Argument Idealogical Opinion
"True gender representation or cheap perpetuation of stereotypes - from page 3 to publishers & the plentora or womens maintenance magazines."
Whether its; food, beauty, health, baby, home, fashion, television, hair or gossip... These magazines summarise women culture, they give the idea of the ideal woman. Women are protrayed in many different ways in the media but all direct to same to conclusion of perfection. In this project I investigated in what the perfect woman was. Looking at celebrity lifestyles to regular working class women. The idea that women should be flawless comes from the media and our own insercurities. We see these ultra thing celebrities, with great figures, flawless skin & hair, glamourous outfits and we want everything they have. We want to look as beautiful as them - all the time. But is that really possible? I believe each woman should be confident and take care of their welbeing NOT for public face values but for their own confidence and happiness.
Re-Label
'A complete overhaul of a coparate i.d'
Re-labelling Primark: Primark does not promote/advertise in ways they possibly could to cut advertising costs to provide cheaper prices to customers. The logic is very straight forward but very undermined by the gross sales that they could make. Advertising a project gives people the knowledge of the item. Until i had to research Primark, I never realised the they had a website. I thought by promoting their website they can gain more internet sales, as now a days more shopping in done online. I created a pop art poster advertising the Primark website. Fused with bright colours and high fashion.
Our Houses Are Mirrors of Ourselves
"In houses there are many entwined forces memories and experiences"
My personal space is my home. Where i am comfortable, I spend most my time in my room in bed relaxing. This is my place of warmth, my central being. It is here where I rest my head at night, wake up to hear the birds churp outside. If I do not wake up in my home, my bed - Im outside my comfort zone. It is my 'chance to sift through history and tap into memories.'
"Valueless but of great value"
Within this project i was inspired by Tracey Emins "Bed" and the controversy surrounded by the theme. Instead of exploiting the graphic details in what take place in my home - I glorified the fact that this is where things for me end each day. I sleep away by stress, troubles and worries. Virginia Woolfe was a feminist novelist in whom sufferred several depression causing her to take her own life. Her works are deep and meaningful, which led her to over think and discard her sanity. This make me question where my home is, and if it affects my comfort zone in any way. I illustrated my surroundings; My country, my city, my borough and my zone.
"Emotional potency of object, space, colour and conditions."
The Recipe Book
This is a cookbook designed especially for men. A completely new form and layout on 'How to cook a good meal'. Based on two selected menus; Roast Chicken & Vermentino as a main dish followed by Plum & Vanilla Brushetta as a desert.
My cookbook gives guidance for combined actions, distinct instrustions and useful tips. The idea is based on a man cooking for his girlfriend, multitasking and being able to have a practically cookbook to hand. As many know multitasking and men are not two words you often use in a sentence but with the use of step by step gudiance notes, a removable shopping list, rulers and the compact size the form of standard cookbooks has been recreated spatically with the layout of working in a kitchen. Each step of the preparation works logically.
"Thinking out of the stereotype."
